Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl - Blog entry #3

One thing that struck me, as i was reading "Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl", was how Linda Brent, when hiding from Dr. Flint, had to stay in hiding for 7 whole years! That's 7 years away from her children, while they didn't even know where she was. When talking about her first hiding place, she writes "The mistress came and led me up stairs to a small room over her own sleeping apartment. 'You will be safe here, Linda' said she" (Brent 102). Here one of Linda's grandmothers good friends had offered Linda a place to hide, in the attic of her house. She also at one point hid in the roof of a small shed. She spent years there, with barely any space to room to move. She explains "During the long nights I was restless for want of air, and I had no room to toss and turn," (123). I find i think its terrible that Linda had to hide like that, just to avoid being enslaved. She couldn't move, which eventually resulted in her limbs becoming weaker, and she had no blankets to keep her warm throughout the cold winters.
